Having friends living locally provides access to a more authentic view of a city. And so it was that I found myself at Tanoshi Sushi on the Upper East Side. Serving omakase - basically the chef's choice of sushi - the food proved fantastic. Fish from around the world (yet incredibly fresh) was prepared as sushi in front of our eyes, flavoured diversely - most intriguingly cherry blossom. The sake on the side was a very handy complement.
